If you’re subscribed to my YouTube channel, then you know I am a big fan of AVerMedia products and have been using their Game Capture HD for the past 12 months. The device proved to be a great solution for my “PS3 in one room, PC in another” dilemma: allowing me to record high definition PS3 footage to the Game Capture HD’s internal storage. You can transfer to PC either via USB or by removing the hard disc and connecting to your computer via some kind of external caddy. I relied on the latter.
However, in the run up to Christmas I made the decision to migrate all of my tech into one room. Aside from the fact I really want a man cave, editing videos would be much easier if everything was in one place. So, I decided to give away my AVerMedia and look for something that can record in full HD.
Note: the AVerMedia Game Capture HD can record in full HD, but only on the XBOX. This is down to Sony and not AVerMedia. Anyway, I digress….
At the time, there was nothing new on the table from AVerMedia, so the Elgato Game Capture HD looked as though it was going to take my hard earned. As per this test to find the best HD capture card, it isn’t the cheapest device on the market but it is certainly the most compact and comes with some brilliant features.
But progress on the man cave has been slower than anticipated and, since starting work, AVerMedia have announced an all new HD capture card: the Live Gamer Portable.
The AVerMedia Live Gamer Portable: HD capture card
I am trying really, really hard to get my hands on one of these for review. Thus far AVerMedia have offered to send me the Live Gamer HD – their High Definition PC capture card – but I’m gunning for the beauty you see above.
I have pointed out that I’m probably the worst person to review their Live Gamer HD as I’m not a PC gamer. Most people would have taken the freebie and ran but I’m sticking to my guns.
All I know at this stage is the AVerMedia Live Gamer Portable looks like a direct competitor for Elgato’s Game Capture HD and is due for release in late March or early April 2013.
Watch this space: if I can get my hands on the AVerMedia Live Gamer Portable I’ll be doing an unboxing, quality test and – ultimately – a giveaway!
You can view the full specifications of the device on the AVerMedia website.
