So, we’re here: another launch night in the Call of Duty franchise. This year is a little different as Modern Warfare has a Dolby Atmos soundtrack and, if you have a compatible headset, it can elevate your gaming to another level.
I rambled on about the evolution of gaming headsets in a previous post but, in short, this is the history of in-game sounds …. mono > stereo > surround sound > Dolby Atmos … and each step along the way marked a massive improvement in how well you can position an enemy when they walk, talk, reload and so on.
Dolby Atmos literally adds another layer of information on top of Surround Sound. Those of you with a decent surround sound headset will know how useful it is being able to hear an enemy and use that information to your advantage. Until now, you could position an enemy in a single plane through 360 degrees. Dolby Atmos gives you full spherical surround sound, meaning you can precisely hear the location of your enemies, whether they are in-front, behind, to your left/right, above/below or any combination of those positions.
If you want to take advantage of this in built functionality, you need a Dolby Atmos surround sound headset. There are plenty to choose from but there are only two brands that I would recommend.

If money is no object and you want the best of the best, then you need a set of Astros – A40 for wired and A50 for wireless. If you’re a keen gamer but don’t want to break the bank, then you want to go for the RIG 800LX (wireless) or RIG 400HX (wired). It’s that simple 🙂
Right, time for some gaming 🙂
