Some of you may already know this; some of you may not. In the “real world” I am paid to teach people the art of Search Engine Optimisation
In a nutshell, website SEO is about three things: on-site content, off-site content and “code”. Click on the link to see a more detailed description of these elements.
When it comes to YouTube there are many parallels and without really thinking about it I apply what I know to my videos and it works: with less than 350 subs I consistently see more than 10,000 views each month; most of which come via search.
I thought I would share what I know and have kicked off with a look at the video description…
If for whatever reason you can’t view the tutorial video, here’s the key point:
When you are filling in your video description, try to optmise the first couple of sentences. By “optimise” I mean give a keyword heavy summary of your video content, being sure your content reads well.
There are two reasons for doing so. Firstly, YouTube can’t “see” your video so you need to provide a summary of what it is all about. Secondly, those opening sentences will be shown alongside your video in YouTube (and/or Google) search results. A well written summary is likely to command more clicks than one that doesn’t make much sense.
I’ll be posting the full set of videos to this YouTube SEO playlist. Subscribe to my channel if you don’t want to miss an episode 🙂
